Frequently Asked Questions
How much is the National Heat Pump Rebate?
Households below the median income can receive up to $10,000 toward an eligible electric heat pump. Other eligible households receive $2,000.
Can I apply now?
Not yet. The rebate was announced on October 8, 2026, and the government has not announced when applications open. You can sign up on the Government of Canada’s program page to be told when it launches.
Does replacing a natural gas furnace qualify?
This has not been confirmed. The announcement talks about replacing heating systems and furnaces, but the published details do not say whether gas furnace replacements or dual-fuel systems qualify. We will update this page when the government clarifies it.
Can I combine it with BC rebates?
Yes. The government says both rebate amounts can be combined with existing provincial programs, subject to each program’s rules. In BC that includes the CleanBC Energy Savings Program and BC Hydro rebates.
Should I wait for the federal rebate before replacing my system?
It depends on your system. The program as described requires approval before installation, so a heat pump installed before the portal opens may not qualify. If your system is failing, BC rebates are available today. If it is working, waiting may let you add the federal rebate. We can help you weigh it.
Do I need an energy audit?
No. The government says no energy audit is required before or after installation.
